Wenger Admits 2nd Place Is Out Of Reach
Wednesday, February 15, 2006
Arsene Wenger has not only conceded the title race, but also second...and maybe third spot. After losing 1-0 to Liverpool, Arsenal are now 10 points behind third placed Liverpool and four behind fourth Sp*rs. This is a serious problem for Arsenal who are travelling to Madrid to play Real Madrid next week.
'We need to recover now and find the right balance to go to Spain for the Champions League, we must find a way to put Real Madrid under pressure.' -Arsene Wenger
Arsenal didnt put a lot if any pressure on Liverpool at the match in Anfield and Wenger has conceded second spot too. Wenger said: 'Automatic qualification in the top two, certainly not, but qualification is still possible. But it will be hard.'
One thing that Arsenal can be happy about is that Real Madrid are not performing either, with elimination from The Copa del rey after falling to Real Zaragoza 6-5 on agregate. Their 4-0 win at home was not enough to put the European giants through to the next round after losing the first leg 6-1.
