Madrid Clash: Whats Riding On The Match For Both Teams
Tuesday, February 21, 2006
It will be a big match that for sure. But both Real and Arsenal stand at the brink of losing big players, big sums of cash, and maybe just maybe a certain inability to complete financially with their rivals.
The Topics:
Henry's future?
Ronaldo's future?
Ashley Cole's future?
Julio Baptista's future?
Tomas Rosicky deal?
Arsenal's future?
Real Madrid's future?
Hery's Future
This match will really decide if henry stays or goes. To me, we can get the 4th Champions League spot and he still may go. This match will prove to Henry if we have the ability to compete at the highest level. Wheather, if we win he will stay I dont know, but I do know that just plain and simply getting the 4th Champions League spot is going to get him to sign the contract. With Barcelona playing Chelsea, we will atleast be happy that one of our rivals will have a bad first-leg. Its win(and keep Henry) or Barca now for Arsenal.
Ronaldo's Future
After admitting that he is unhappy at Madrid, losing to Arsenal and losing their last hope of a title, there will be no better reason for Ronaldo to leave Real Madrid. Also, with Robinho inviting Henry to play with him at Real, Ronaldo may feel that his position is not guaranteed in the first team.
Ashley Cole And Julio Baptista's Futures
With newspapers saying that the only reason Real Madrid even attempted to buy Julio Baptista was to persuade Arsenal to sell Ashley Cole to them, talks of these players futures is important. Although, Julio is quick to say that he is not interested in a move to Arsenal and that he is happy at Madrid, he still does not have the final answer when it comes to deals involving big clubs(aka Man Utd, Real Madrid, etc), just ask David Beckham. Ashley Cole may be tempted to leave North London for the right price as Real Madrid is not the only club wanting to sign him. Again, if Arsenal dont do the business, he may leave.
Arsenal And Real Madrid's Future
Remaining in the Champions League is great financially. With Arsenal still paying back the remaining 100+ million pounds for their new stadium, that sum of money is very important. As for Real, it is no secret that they intend on buying big name players every season. But two things have slowed them down, not performing in the champions league, and they just cant pay as much....I know what youre gonna say, Its Real Madrid, they can pay anything.... but with big name players getting paid 6 digits weekly and no success for 2 years now, profits are not really high. With clubs like Barcelona and Chelsea having huge sums of cash to burn, players are looking at money and success unlike the old i can guarantee you 110k a week routine. Arsenal may not have buying problems because they dont target big name players but if they continue to fall, players like Thierry Henry will leave. Which would mean loss of revenue in ticket sales and many other things.
One things for sure, one of these teams will go on to the next stage of the competition and the only team, GET READY FOR A BUMPY RIDE!
