UEFA Warns Arsenal... Beckham Supports Arsenal
Friday, March 24, 2006
UEFA have warned Arsenal and Liverpool that if they attempt to create breakaway league, a so called rival to the Champions League, they could be kicked out of the Premiership.
This comes after rumours have suggested that G14, a group consisting of Europe's top clubs including Arsenal, Man Utd and Barcelona are unhappy by the way they are planning a rival league to the Champions League.
UEFA will be strict in taking action against clubs which attempt to create another tournament. A statement said: "Football is about fairness, opportunity, excitement and variety.
"It is not a closed shop where only the richest and most powerful are invited to the table.
"UEFA will not tolerate a structure or system where smaller clubs, smaller nations and all their supporters never have the chance to follow their dreams.
"This is not what UEFA are about, this is not what Europe is about, this is not what football is about."
David Beckham will be supporting Arsenal for the rest of the Champions League campaign. Eventhough he plays in Spain, he wants an English club, there cant be any other than Arsenal to win the Champions League. The England captain believes that Arsenal have what it takes to go all the way this season.
David said:
“Without a doubt, Arsenal can win the Champions League.
“Having come up against them in the previous round, I know what they are capable of - and there is no reason they cannot go all the way.
“I’m sure every proud Englishman will be cheering Arsenal on. I certainly will.
“Although I play in Spain, I want to see the English teams win it.”
