Capello: Vieira Has Nothing To Prove... Arsene: Punish Divers
Saturday, March 25, 2006
Fabio Capello has said that his midfielder Patrick Vieira has nothing to prove to former employers Arsenal. Arsenal are set to face Juventus on Tuesday at Highbury in the first leg of their quarter-finals champions league tie.
"Obviously the game will be special for Patrick," Capello said. "However, he has nothing to prove. He captained Arsenal with great success for several years, he helped the side to win many trophies. Arsenal and Vieira just decided to take different roads last summer and I'm sure the Arsenal fans have understood that."
Arsene Wenger has encouraged football rule-makers to punish divers in the game.
“We have to fight it,” he said. “There is only one way to punish people diving obviously. [That’s] retrospectively [with] suspensions.
“Once a guy knows he might be punished he will not dive.
”We are all managers. Who can say that one of their players has never dived? Nobody can say that in our League.”
“I don’t think it is a major problem in our game. I believe that basically the competition is fair in England.
“But once it is in there it is difficult to get out.”
