Torres Shoots Down Premiership... Walcott Turns Pro
Friday, March 17, 2006
In a dramatic turn of events, it seems that Fernando Torres, being an Atletico Madrid fan and all, wants to stay in Spain. Chelsea, Arsenal, Sp*rs and Newcastle all had aimed on bringing the Spanish Wayne Rooney to England during this summer. Atletico rejected a £20m bid from Sp*rs during the January transfer window and Fernando's agent[José Antonio Martin] says that Atletico can match any Premiership club's ambition. Atletico is set to sell their stadium to the city, José Antonio Martin said that the sale would make Atletico one of the richest clubs in the world. He said: "In the summer it depends on how he performs at the World Cup and if Atlético are in the Champions League. [Atlético] is the best team in Spain in the second half of the season, better than Barcelona and much better than Real Madrid, which is very important. The club will sell its stadium [to the city] and when it does, it will become one of the richest in the world."
Theo Walcott has signed his first professional contract on his birthday[16th March] which will increase his current pay of £90 a week to a rumoured £2000 a week.
"Signing his first professional contract will be a real milestone and Theo knows he is in good hands at Arsenal.", Theo's agent[Colin Gordon] told the London Evening Standard.
"His wages will go up quite a bit, and he will be paid more than most MPs.
"He is not planning to do anything special, but he will start taking driving lessons."
