Premiership: Arsenal 7-0 Boro
Sunday, January 15, 2006
It was the perfect ending to a joyful week for Arsenal. Two new youngsters were signed and a 7-0 trashing of Boro. It was one of the few matches this season the we were looking like we were going to win from the start. I call this The Minutizer:
03rd Minute:
Ljungberg hits the first shot of the game from just outside the penalty box only to be saved by Boro keeper, Bradley Jones.
05th Minute:
A squared ball by Pires, sets up Ljungberg only for his shot to be blocked by a defender.
12th Minute:
Henry's freekick from 25 yards out misses by inches.
14th Minute:
Reyes hits a long range shot, though Jones is fast to react.
20th Minute, GOAL!:
Ljungberg dribbles past the Boro right back at crosses the ball, Henry volleys the ball to Jones right, leaving him no chance!
22nd Minute, GOAL!:
A Reyes corner is met by Senderos and his bald head scores our second! A rare Arsenal goal from a set-piece!
30th Minute, GOAL!:
A long pass from Reyes finds Henry in open space, Jones takes a bold decision to run up and close down henry, but it proved useless, as Henry esily toe-poked the ball to Jones right for his second and Arsenal third goal.
36th Minute:
After being out for months, Ashley Cole makes his return to the side, replacing Pascal Cygan, who picked up an injury(Cygan is expected to be out for 3 weeks with a hamstring injury). His return earned him a laud roar from the Arsenal fans, making their voices heard.
45th Minute:
James Morrison scores for Boro only to realise he was flagged off-side.
45th Minute+2, GOAL!:
Pires scores a fantastic goal from just inside the box after good work from Henry.
HALF TIME
50th Minute:
Ljungberg makes another beautiful run and squares it for Henry, only for the Frech star to kick it over the bar.
53rd Minute:
Pires heads a Henry freekick into the back of the net, but was wrongly flagged off-side.
59th Minute, GOAL!:
Gilberto scores with his head from another Henry freekick, nearly an exact replica of the earlier freekick that Pires was judged off-side for.
68th Minute, GOAL!:
Henry equels Cliff Bastin's recond for most goals in the premiership wearing an Arsenal shirt of 150 goals, with a goal which wasa set up beautifully by Jose Antonio Reyes.
72nd Minute:
Doriva gets sent off for a second bookable offense.
78th Minute:
Chris Riggott hits the bar and the follow-up was by Yakubu was saved by a scrambling Lehmann.
85th Minute, GOAL!:
Aleksander Hleb who came on as a substitute for Robert Pires scores his first goal for the club after a goal-mouth scramble found the ball end up at his feet.
88th Minute:
With damage limitations on his mind, Jones makes a fantastic save to deny Freddie a well-deserved goal.
In all it was a comfortable game for us. I just Hope we can keep-up the good work in our next few matches. If we play like this against Real Madrid, we are assured a place in the final 8 of the UCL.
My man of the match will have to be Jose Antonio Reyes, a lot of people may disagree because Henry got the hatrick but Reyes was involved in all but 1 goal.
