2 Deals In 1 Day?
Friday, January 13, 2006
Moments after signing young Abou Diaby from Auxerre, Arsene Wenger noted that a possible deal with with Monaco for Togo internation Emmanuel Adebayor was about to be agreed. He said, "We are looking at a striker called Adebayor, I think it could happen later today." Adebayor has been linked to Arsenal quite a lot recently and it was always possible that Arsene would buy a young talented player playing in France. The shock was the timing, after the first week of the transfer window opening, Arsenal did not make any buys. But in the space of a few hours, we have added to new players to our squad. Wenger also said, "He has qualities that we don’t have in the side. He is tall, good in the air and makes good runs. He is a bit of a Kanu type but he goes in more behind the defenders."
“There is good chance it will happen today. If something happens we will let you know.”
Diaby has joined Arsenal on a 4-year deal for a fee that is said to be about £2million. Diaby had rejected a deal from Chelsea apparently because "Arsene is better than Jose". He has already become my favourite player.
On a different note, it appears the news that rising star Theo Walcott has reached an agreement with Arsenal is infact false. Arsene denied the story that Arsenal have struck a deal with the teenage sensation.
Reports on Friday claimed that the 16-year-old was likely to join the Gunners in a deal worth up to £10million depending on appearances.
However Wenger told BBC Radio 5 Live on Friday, "I rate the player but we haven't got a deal."
When asked about the price of the player which is said to be between 10-15million, Wenger said, "It is not a lot - it is massive money even for a confirmed player and a little bit high."
Wenger paid 12million for Thierry Henry in the summer of 1999, just wanted to clear that.
